Knowing Jesus Christ as our ultimate treasure and joy
Growing together in biblical maturity as a covenant community
Going unashamedly with the gospel to our neighbor and the nations
To Know Christ
Our desire first and foremost is that we know Jesus Christ – to understand his birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension and what it means to our lives and to all humanity.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. John 1:1-2
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
We invite people to turn away from sin and believe in Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior. Why is this necessary? Man in his natural state is alienated from God, separated from Him as a result of sin, not just his own, but the sin that is the result of the fall from grace in the Garden of Eden. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10
We bring the gospel message (Good News) to a waiting world through multiple means … by the witness of our members, our interaction in the community, publications such as our newsletter and web site, and an uncompromising gospel message preached at Common Ground and shared via the internet and podcast. But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ. Philippians 3:7-8
To Grow in Christ
We desire to grow in Christ and to help others do so. Growing in Christ involves learning to live Biblically with a goal of becoming more and more like Christ. To help members grow in Christ, Common Ground offers a variety of learning options from the Foundations of the Faith course to Growth Groups, adult education, and women’s and men’s study groups. Whatever your need or interest, you will find opportunities to grow in Christ at Common Ground Church.
For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; Romans 8:29
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 1 John 3:2
To Go with Christ to the World
We reach out to a lost world in obedience to Jesus’ charge to his disciples prior to his ascension:
“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
We serve as his faithful witnesses in our community, our state, our nation, and to the world. Through local, national, and international outreach, through care ministries such as Hoof Prints and Thanksgiving Baskets, and through community events such as the Way of the Cross, we seek to share knowledge and growth in Christ with our world.
It is our desire to live the truth of God’s Word in community and compassion, and to take the message of God’s word from local to global. We believe that in doing so we fulfill both the Great Commandment (Matthew 22.36-38) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28.18-20).
